Last year, junior high principal Amy Thomas asked her elective teachers to develop ideas for classes that would be of interest to students. The teachers went to work to capitalize on things that kids could try out and see if anything piqued their interest. Some of the new offerings include fiber arts, film as lit, and flight and space.

Mathews held a festive Trunk or Treat, bringing together students, families, and staff for an evening of Halloween fun. Dozens of creatively decorated car trunks lined the school parking lot, offering candy and games. Thank you to the Mathews PTO and everyone who helped make this night a great success.

The 3rd grade team at JTSD was ready to repeat their usual lesson on force and motion, but decided to freshen things up by having the students work in small groups, where they could design and build a miniature golf course. The teachers began the experience by taking the students to Getaway Golf in Springfield, where they observed the layout and design of each hole so they could recall it as they returned to school to create their own holes.
