This one-year course is designed with an emphasis on meeting the requirements of the College Board AP English Language and Composition examination. This college-level curriculum engages students in becoming skilled readers of prose written in a variety of rhetorical contexts and in becoming skilled writers who compose for a variety of purposes. Both their writing and their reading should make students aware of the interactions among a writer's purposes, audience expectations, and subjects, as well as the way genre conventions and the resources of language contribute to the effectiveness of writing. Students in this course will study a variety of fiction and nonfiction texts written by American authors in order to improve their skills in close reading, analysis, argumentation, and synthesis. Students may earn English 110 dual credit upon successful completion of second semester.
