Band Program

Nixa Bands serves close to 800 students across the Nixa school district. Instrumental music is offered in three intermediate buildings and is introduced at the beginning of the sixth grade year. The junior high band program focuses on group instrument classes with a transition to large ensemble instruction in the 8th grade. The high school band program consists of the 240 member Crimson Corps marching band as well as the concert band, symphonic band, wind ensemble, and jazz band. These award-winning ensembles have performed across the nation at some of the largest venues the Arts offers, including the Bands of America Grand Nationals, Washington D.C., Florida, Colorado, Texas, Oklahoma, Boston, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Honolulu. The program is proud to call the Aetos Center for the Performing Arts, as well as the 4000 seat Eagle Stadium, the home for all local band performances.

Marching Band
Known as the Crimson Corps, this 240 piece marching band performs at all home varsity football games and maintains an active competition schedule in the fall. The band was a 2019 Finalist at the Bands of American(BOA) Regional in Northern Iowa. In 2021 the band participated for the first time in BOA Grand Nationals held in Indianapolis. The band is a 4x time Champion at the “Ozarko” festival held at Missouri State University. The band is proud of its long history of growth and excellence in the marching arts.
The 2022 Show is titled “This Winter’s Night”. The performance celebrates the balance that comes from the winter season such as darkness covered in the white snow and feelings of warmth during cold nights. #ThisWintersNight

Concert Band
The high school concert program is centered around 3 large ensembles; Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble. These ensembles have consistently earned high ratings at the MSHSAA State Large Ensemble assessment.
District band as well as solo & ensemble preparation is also a major component of the concert program. Participation in these events are valuable to the growth of the student performer.

Jazz Band
The high school jazz ensemble is a class that meets during the school day with a focus on jazz styling and improvisation. The class performs at local concerts and events, sharing a broad selection of music with the community.

Color Guard
The high school color guard, focusing on equipment work as well as dance, is an essential part of the band program, especially the Crimson Corps. During the winter season, the program has three winter guards; nVision (high school), NSight (high school) & nSpire (junior high). All three ensembles are active in the MCCGA and WGI circuits.

8th Grade Band
The 8th grade band meets during the same class period, though is often split into woodwinds, brass, and percussion. This critical year sees the students transition from an individual playing focus to a role in the larger ensemble.

7th Grade Band
The 7th grade band meets in several different hours during the school day. The focus is on like instrument classes. There are 6 different classes at this age level; Flutes, Saxes, Clarinets, High Brass, Low Brass, and Percussion.

6th Grade Band
There are approx 270 students who participate in this first stage of the program. With a focus on like instrument learning, there are 22 different instrument classes that meet across the 3 separate campuses, each meeting two days a week for 50 minutes.
