JROTC History
JROTC Mission is "To Motivate Young People To Be Better Citizens."
The U.S. Army Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC)
- One of the largest character development and citizenship programs for youth in the world.
- National Defense Act of 1916 established organized JROTC programs at public and private educational institutions.
- In 1964, the Vitalization Act opened JROTC up to the other services replaced most of the active duty instructors with retirees.
- JROTC salary is cost-shared between the U.S. Army and the school
Congressionally mandated by Title 10 United States Code, Section 2031Each military service sponsoring a JROTC program is designed to “instill in students in United States secondary educational institutions the values of citizenship, service to the United States, and personal responsibility and a sense of accomplishment.”
Nixa High School JROTC
- Established in 1996 as part of an expansion initiative approved by the U.S. Congress
- Highly regarded JROTC program throughout the Southwest Missouri area
- Designated as an Honor Unit with Distinction program for the past 22 years
- Supports multiple co-curricular competitive and non-competitive teams
