ESL (English as a Second Language) is a program under the umbrella of Special Services within the school district. ESL-certified teachers provide additional assistance to students who speak a language other than English and/or have another language spoken in their home. This assistance can come in many different forms, but there are two main objectives of the program. The first is to help the students achieve success when using academic English in the areas of English Language Arts, mathematics, social studies, and science. The second is to correctly use social and instructional language (conversational English).
