The 2023 Bond Issue Summer Update
Current Status of Bond Issue Projects
High Pointe Elementary: The new addition at High Pointe Elementary will include 13 classrooms and a storm shelter for students at High Pointe and Summit Intermediate. Dr. Kevin Kopp, assistant superintendent, said, “Construction is moving along nicely with the High Pointe addition. We had a few delays with the rain in June, but we hope to make up that time with our schedule. We are very excited about the learning space this project will provide to High Pointe. The storm shelter will enhance the safety of both Summit and High Pointe.” Construction crews have poured concrete and are starting to add steel bars for the foundation of the addition, which should be completed by the spring of 2025.
JTSD Traffic Flow: Construction has started on the new road construction project at JTSD. The car line is scheduled to be completed by the start of school in August. This will move incoming pick-up and drop off traffic off Market Street and onto a dedicated two lane drive that parents can enter off of HWY 14. Exiting traffic will still use Market Street, but congestion will be greatly reduced.
Nixa Junior High: The main gym seating area in the junior high school has been replaced with bleachers, which will provide a more comfortable and safe space for sports and events.

In terms of athletic and activity programs, the multi-purpose facility will create more opportunities for students to engage in a variety of activities. The enhanced facilities will support the growth and success of our programs, allowing for more comprehensive and diverse offerings for our students, like intramural sports. Once we get into the space, we can also see how we can expand its usage to benefit the community for usage by large events and groups.”
Nixa Public Schools Operations Campus: The campus will be developed in the 20-acre industrial park recently purchased by the district. The 2023 Bond Issue Fall Update
Updating spaces around the district
Thank you Nixa for Your Support!
The passing of the $47 million No-Tax-Levy-Increase Bond Issue in April helps the district stay up to date with the newest technology, makes the district safer, and expands buildings for more students to receive an education. The district would like to provide regular updates through the Eagle Express to the community as we have significant updates on projects. You can see updates between these reports at www.nixabondissue.net.
Completed or Nearing Completion Bond Projects
Smart Boards: On July 31, the technology department installed SMART Boards across the district. These SMART Boards help students have access to hands-on activities in the classroom. When asked about how the new technology has affected the district, David Liss, executive director of technology, stated, “Student comments center more around the ability to see better due to the backlighting of the panel. Teachers are excited about having a technology tool that is up-to-date and functional. Many of our older SMART Boards were failing and had to be adjusted constantly. Teachers are thrilled to be able to rely on the technology to work without interruption. Overall, I'm hearing very positive feedback!”
Buses: Six buses were added to the district fleet over the summer. The bond provided one new bus and five slightly used buses. Before Covid, new buses were around $80,000-$90,000. After Covid, new buses are around $150,000 and used buses range around $100,000.
Staff Workrooms: Workrooms have or will have updates made.
Nixa Junior High: At Nixa Junior High, the seventh-grade pick-up and drop-off that used to be gravel has now been replaced with asphalt. Then the Family and Consumer Science (FACS) classes received a brand new kitchen to help students learn the many skills of cooking. Andrea Kaplafka, FACS teacher, said, “We got brand new floors, new cabinets. We have a fifth kitchen and a pantry. We have an incredible laundry station. And then everything came together right before school started. It's better than my wildest dreams. I truly could not have pictured it looking this good. My favorite part is seeing eighth graders who had me last year coming in because it's like Christmas morning and their faces just light up. They can't believe how great the kitchen is, so that's been really cool.”
Nixa High School: At Nixa High School, renovations were done to the media center (also known as the library). In July, the construction crew began their work and the whole project is nearly complete with just minor additions to go before the end of the first semester.
Espy Elementary: At Espy Elementary, a driveway was created to help elevate traffic on the roads surrounding the campus.
