2023 Ballot Issue
Thank you for voting yes and passing the bond issue!
As our community grows, so does our school district. Therefore, the Nixa Board of Education has approved an April 4, $47 million No-Tax-Levy-Increase Bond Issue for various projects.
The tax-levy will not change from its current rate of $4.5091 if the Bond Issue passes or fails.
The approval of the Bond Issue would allow the district to access funds to complete the following projects:
- At High Pointe Elementary, there would be additional classrooms constructed. This addition would also be constructed to be a storm shelter for students at both High Pointe Elementary and Summit Intermediate.
- At Nixa High School, there would be additional facilities constructed for classroom space, activity space, as well as additional parking. The district would also take the first steps in the development of the 38 acres that will house practice spaces and eventually athletic fields as well as possible spaces for other school activities.
- At Nixa Junior High, the district would complete additional classroom spaces as well as make improvements to the theater and construct additional space for activities.
- The district would purchase additional school buses and additional maintenance equipment.
- The district would make parking and traffic improvements at Espy Elementary and John Thomas School of Discovery.
- Across the district there would also be various roofing and HVAC upgrades and repairs completed as well as upgrading technology equipment and other safety and security improvements to facilities as funding allows.
The district also has additional projects that would be completed with the No-Tax-Levy-Increase Bond Issue money if funding allows.
2019 Ballot Issue
Thank you for voting yes and passing Question 1 & Question 2!
Projects and information about the 2019 ballot issue:
The Nixa Board of Education has approved two issues for the April 2 ballot. Question 1 is a Debt Service Bond Issue with no tax levy increase for various projects. Money generated from Question 1 can only be used for construction or renovations. Question 2 is a change to the current Operating Levy and money generated from Question 2 can be used for both salaries as well as construction or renovations. The approval of both ballot issues would allow the district to access funds to complete the following projects:
- Construct classroom additions at Century Elementary that would allow the district to bring 4th graders back to the school from Summit.
- Remodel Eagle Stadium at Nixa High School with expanded seating and concession areas.
- Construct a new performing arts center at Nixa High School, which would seat at least 1,000 people, to replace the current theatre and remodel theatre classroom areas.
- Remodel the current theater to a new band room to accommodate the students who are enrolled in the band program.
- Expand the choir room to accommodate the students who are enrolled in the choir program.
- Enhance the teacher salary schedule, which would increase salaries for all teachers.
- Nixa’s current starting teacher salary is $36,781.
- Nixa’s starting salary is less than area schools including Ozark, Springfield, Willard, and Republic.
- Nixa’s starting salary is less than the state average starting salary of $37,454 for school districts with 4,000-14,999 student population, according to MSTA’s 2017-18 salary schedule report.
- According to a 2019 Department of Education report, Missouri is #49 in starting teacher pay.
- Nixa High School would expand classroom space.
- Since the school opened almost 20 years ago, the high school’s population has grown from about 1000 students to almost 1700 students.
- High Pointe Elementary, Century Elementary, and the Early Childhood Community Room would receive changes to the entries based on the recommendations from a recent safety audit.
- Inman Intermediate would receive roofing repairs.
- High Pointe and Summit will receive a classroom infill.
- Construct multi-purpose rooms/gyms at Century and Espy.
- Yearly maintenance on and upgrade of HVAC systems as needed at district buildings.
- Complete roofing repairs across the district.
- The district also has additional projects that would be completed if funding allows.
On Question 1 the Debt Service Tax-Levy will not change from its current rate of $1.0666 if the Bond Issue passes or fails. Question 2 is a $0.41 Operating Tax Levy increase for various projects. The increase would be approximately $6.49 a month for a $100,000 home. Please note this is the assessed valuation of the home and not the home's purchase price. Check your tax receipt for your home's assessed valuation.
The last time the Board of Education asked for an increase to the Operating Levy was 14 years ago.
2015 Ballot Issue
Thank you for voting yes and passing the bond issue!
Projects and information about the 2015 ballot issue:
As our community grows, so does our school district. With this in mind, the Nixa Board of Education has approved an no-tax-levy-increase bond issue for various projects that will appear on the April 8 ballot. It is important to note that the tax levy will not change from its current rate of $4.31 if the bond issue passes or fails.
The approval of the bond issue would allow the district to access funds needed to complete the following projects:
- New commons area/lunch room, new secure entrance, additional classroom space, and the remodeling of various classroom spaces (band, music, science, etc.). These projects will finish the construction started with the April 2012 bond issue and help reduce the overcrowding in the junior high and reduce the use of trailers for classrooms.
- Construct two FEMA tornado safe rooms at the Nixa High School and Nixa Junior High. The district has received grants from FEMA to construct these community tornado safe rooms. The bond issue would help pay for the district's portion of the shelter. If these tornado safe rooms are constructed, it would bring the total occupancy of the tornado safe rooms in the district, including the safe rooms at Inman and Mathews, to almost 7,000 people.
- Additional capital projects. The district has additional projects that would be completed with the bond issue money if funding allows.
Generally speaking, these are all projects that would be taken care of with the no-tax-levy-increase bond issue money.
2012 Bond Issue
Thank you for voting yes and passing the bond issue!
Projects and information about the 2012 ballot issue:
As our community grows, so does our school district. With this in mind, the Nixa Board of Education has approved a February 7 No-Tax-Levy-Increase Bond Issue for various projects.
It is important to note that the tax-levy will not change from its current rate of $4.31 if the Bond Issue passes or fails.
The approval of the Bond Issue would allow the district to access funds needed to complete the following projects:
- New wing of classrooms at Nixa Junior High. This wing will help reduce the overcrowding in the junior high and reduce the use of trailers for classrooms.
- New wing of classrooms at Nixa High School. The high school's third floor is completely full, so the high school had to add a trailer for two classrooms and put some teachers on carts to accommodate the growth that the high school has seen. This wing will be built on the gravel parking lot on the southeast side of the building.
- Construct a FEMA shelter at Mathews Elementary. The district has received a grant from FEMA to construct this community shelter. The Bond Issue would help pay for the district's portion of the shelter.
- Update technology. Because of recent cuts in State funding, the district has not been able to update its technology as quickly as is needed. The Bond Issue will help purchase needed technology across the district.
- Purchase school buses. The district's bus fleet is aging and beginning to call for new buses. Cuts in State transportation dollars have resulted in a slower update of the district's bus fleet.
- Multipurpose turf at Eagle Stadium. The new wing of classrooms at the high school will be built on a parking lot, so the parking lot must be moved to a practice field.
- The school will still need a practice area, so by installing multi-purpose turf, any group can use the field and not wear it down.
- Additional capital projects. The district has additional projects that would be completed with the Bond Issue money. These can range from minor repairs to updates to schools to locker rooms at the high school.
Generally speaking, these are the projects that would be taken care of with the No-Tax-Levy-Increase Bond Issue money.
2009 Bond Issue
Thank you for voting yes and passing the bond issue!
Projects and information about the 2009 ballot issue:
As our community grows, so does our school district. With this in mind, the Nixa Board of Education has approved an April 7, No-Tax-Levy-Increase Bond Issue for various projects. It is important to note that the tax-levy will not change from its current rate of $4.31 if the Bond issue passes or fails.
The approval of the bond issue would allow the district to access funds needed to complete the following projects:
- New 5 - 6 Grade School to be located on Cheyenne Road next to High Pointe (K-4) Elementary School. Students will be transferred from Main Street School and Inman, which will reduce enrollment at those schools.
- Retrofit/Remodel the current Main Street School into an expanded Early Childhood Center and a centralized Faught Administrative Center. In doing so, the district will be able to accommodate over 100 additional preschool students on a waiting list and move away from renting trailers for Central Office and school rooms.
- District Technology Center: The building behind the main street school often referred to as the "shop" will be remodeled into a district technology center, replacing the current center housed in a storage basement.
- Provide a face-lift to Thomas Elementary School's entrance and selected offices (i.e. nurse's station, counselor's office, office manager's reception area, a secured entrance).
- Capital projects like the needed roofing repairs at schools will be completed and repairs to various facilities.
- Pay off a $3M Lease-Purchase that was borrowed three years ago to complete the school construction projects at that time. This will allow the district to access more state funding.
Generally speaking, these are the projects that would be taken care of with the Bond Issue money.
2004 Ballot Issue
Thank you for voting yes and passing the bond issue!
Projects and information about the 2004 ballot issue:
The school district's theme, "Continuing a Legacy of Learning," is not being taken lightly by those of us serving the Nixa community. Just this school year our Technology Plan received an outstanding mark (99%) by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). We are also one of the few school districts in the State of Missouri to earn a perfect score of 100% for the past two school years on our Annual Performance Report (APR). The Nixa R-II School District is "Accredited with Distinction for Performance," an accreditation standard met by fewer than one-third of all school districts in the state and the highest award given.
It is safe to say that in Nixa you are part of a school district that is both celebrating the traditions and enthusiastically preparing our youth for their future! One of the strategies found in our Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP) is Strategy Two.
"We will develop and implement progressive plans to prepare for
future student enrollment." With our school district population of 4,300 students continuing to grow, we find it necessary to once again ask you to support another NO TAX INCREASE Bond Issue in February, 2004. Money from this $5.6 million bond will:
- Pay off the high school's lease-purchase agreement (which will in turn produce more state aid revenue to the district).
- Finish off half the third floor at the high school (We have reached capacity on floors one and two).
- Add four to six classrooms at Century Elementary School (also at capacity).
- Upgrade the phone systems at the Junior High School, Espy and Thomas Elementary Schools.
Your support will be appreciated, and the funds from this NO TAX INCREASE bond issue will be used wisely.
