FEMA Safe Room Information
FEMA Safe Room Information
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Safe Rooms are owned by the Nixa School District and its first function is to provide protection for the students and staff during tornado and extreme high wind events during school hours.
Your official notification that the safe room is open will be through your National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) weather radio. Nixa’s safe rooms open when a tornado watch or tornado warning is issued, the public can begin to enter the safe room. If a tornado warning is issued without a tornado watch, the safe rooms will be opened as soon as possible. We recommend using a weather radio to get your weather alerts since they do not use cellular, like a phone, which could cause a drop in coverage in an emergency. Again, we will be using the NOAA weather radios as our official notification system.
Below is a link to a Special Needs Form (physical impairments, special medical alerts, aid animal instructions, etc. to be completed and returned to Nixa Public Schools FEMA, 301 S. Main St., Nixa, MO 65714).
