ClassCloud and High School AI
Starting September 29, 2026, students in grades 9-12 will have access to ClassCloud, a new AI tool for both students and teachers. Nixa High School’s approach is guided by a formal AI Policy and Expectations document, developed last semester by Nixa’s AI Committee, a group of teachers, administrators, and staff, to ensure students continue developing independent thinking and critical reasoning skills while identifying specific, appropriate situations where AI tools can support learning.
We Are Keeping Your Students Safe
When we think about how we teach teenagers to drive, we don't hand them the keys and hope for the best, and we don't ban them from cars until they turn 18. We put them in a vehicle with an instructor and an emergency brake and real experience, with a way to stop things if needed.
ClassCloud works the same way. When your student uses AI at school the following is in place:
- Built-in guardrails automatically block inappropriate content, unsafe requests, and conversations that go somewhere they shouldn't.
- Teachers and school staff can see how AI is being used and can step in at any moment.
- If activity signals a concern, school officials are notified so they can respond quickly.
Your student is never using AI unsupervised at school.
Safeguards and Clear Expectations
Nixa High School's AI Policy sets clear expectations for when and how ClassCloud may be used in the classroom. It is not a substitute for independent work; it is a classroom tool teachers may use and have students use in specific, identified contexts. ClassCloud was selected in part for its built-in safeguards, and its use will remain within the guardrails our policy establishes.
Controlled Student Access
Access will be limited and purposeful, determined by teachers, in specific contexts, not open-ended. The goal in every case is to preserve the thinking and learning process, not shortcut it. Please review our AI Expectations for students here:

Data and Privacy
ClassCloud is FERPA and COPPA compliant and SOC 2 Type II certified. Student data is never used to train AI models, and our staff has visibility into usage so we can monitor and address any concerns quickly.
