When should I keep my child home from school?

Children should remain home if they...

  • are unable to participate fully in all school activities because of illness 

  • have symptoms of a contagious condition or a rash with an unknown cause 

  • have had a fever of 100 degrees or more within the last 24 hours (without fever-reducing medicine)

  • have experienced vomiting or diarrhea within the past 12 hours or if they are unable to eat normally

  • have a diagnosis of strep throat that has not been under antibiotic treatment for 24 hours (if prescribed by physician)

  • have persistent or uncontrollable coughing or shortness of breath
