What happens if the Chromebook is stolen?

In the case of theft, vandalism and other criminal acts, fire, a police/fire report MUST be filed by the student or parent for the waiver coverage to take place.  A copy of the police/fire report will be provided to the district Technology Center.  If the student is enrolled in the Device Damage Waiver plan, a $75 fee is required for lost or stolen Chromebooks.  If the student is not enrolled in the Device Damage Waiver plan, the full replacement cost is:

 

Acer R11 C738T - Full Replacement Acer R11 C738T: $287 or $300 with the charger

Acer 511 R752T - Full Replacement Acer: $332 or $349.00 with the charger

 

If the fully functional device is later found or returned, this fee will be returned to the family.

 

Please note, the technology department will have the ability to locate a device that is “lost” or “stolen” when the device is turned on.  Also, the chromebooks are only accessed with an active @nixaschools.net account.  

 

In summary, if the device is stolen, it will be rendered useless to anyone who tries to turn it on as the technology department will have locked the device.

 

If a student believes their Chromebook was lost or stolen at school, they should report the incident immediately to the building Help Desk. (8)
