Tips for the Online Application with Nixa Public Schools

Applications are welcomed and accepted year-round. Don’t see an opening of interest? Apply anyway! You can select ‘positions of interest’ if there are no vacancies in which you want to apply.
Select all positions of interest, even if there is not a current vacancy posted.
Be thorough and answer questions fully. If hired, salary, etc., are based on information provided in the application.
Calendar to update the online application, at the very least, once per year. We recommend setting a calendar reminder every 4-6 months to keep it updated.
You can revise the application any time -- even after submitting the application.
Update and re-submit your application rather than starting a new/second application.
Transcripts are not absolutely necessary to be included with the application.
If there is a vacancy posted, apply as soon as possible. You can log in after submitting the application/applying to add more information at a later date.
Use the “Additional Info” section of the application to share any additional skills, training, background, etc. you have that you were not able to include elsewhere in the application. This is a great way to help us get to know you better!

How to become certified as a substitute in Missouri with DESE: (Starting late December 2021, there will be an alternative way to get your sub certificate if you do not already have 36+ college hours.) CLICK HERE

If you wish to apply for a classroom substitute teaching position, a DESE substitute certificate or teaching certificate is required. There is no certification required to be a clerical-only substitute.

NIXA SUBSTITUTE PAY

Clerical: $15.34

Substitute Certificate: $16.67

Teacher Certificate: $18.00

APPLYING FOR A SUBSTITUTE CERTIFICATE

(Current MO Teaching Certificate holders do not need to apply for a substitute certificate and can skip to the section titled “Submit a Substitute Teacher Application”)

Those wishing to become a classroom substitute must apply with DESE (Department of Elementary and Secondary Education) for Substitute Certificate. Certificates cost $50.00 payable to DESE upon submission of an application. DESE requires 36 or more college credit hours or the successful completion of a 20-hour online Frontline-based program. Transcripts or a Frontline completion certificate must be mailed to the DESE Educator Certification Center after applying on the DESE website. The link for the Frontline program and further details about Substitute Certificates can be found on the DESE website under “Content Substitute.”

COMPLETING A FEDERAL FINGERPRINT BACKGROUND CHECK

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and Nixa Public Schools require each substitute candidate to complete a Federal Fingerprint Background Check, using a registration code specific to our District that communicates with both DESE and Nixa Public Schools. (Applicants are responsible for the $41.75 fee.)

Unfortunately, Background Checks completed for other agencies or school districts do not list Nixa Public Schools as a Requesting Agency and are not valid for our District. To schedule a Federal Fingerprint Background Check, click here and use a registration code from the options below.
